deMello offers us happiness, yes HAPPINESS.

Everyone wants happiness, don’t they?  You want to be happy?  I certainly want to be happy!  deMello is honest and direct, he tells us, “What is coming could be the most important minutes in your lives”  You had better sit down so and see what he has to tell us.  “If you could grasp this”, deMello says, and you can almost feel him willing us on from within the pages, “you’d hit upon the secret of awakening.  You would be happy forever.  You would never be unhappy again.  Nothing would have the power to hurt you again.  I mean that, nothing“.

Yes, well, maybe we should wait for a better offer, you know something like everlasting happiness and a year’s supply of free coffee.

Or maybe not.  deMello tells us, “Uninterrupted happiness is uncaused.  True happiness is uncaused.  You cannot make me happy.  You are not my happiness.  You say to the awakened person, “Why are you happy?” and the awakened person replies, “Why not?“.

Well then, we might say, how come we are unhappy, because we most certainly are – just ask our partner or our work colleagues.  They will quickly tell you we are unhappy, just as they are themselves.

deMello is having nothing of our excuses.  He is firm on this one, “To acquire happiness you don’t have to do anything, because happiness cannot be acquired.  Does anybody know why? Because we have it already.  How can you acquire what you already have?  Then why don’t you experience it?  Because you’ve got to drop something.  You’ve got to drop illusions.  You don’t have to add anything in order to be happy; you’ve got to drop something.  Life is easy, life is delightful.  It’s only hard on your illusions, your ambitions, our greed, your cravings.  Do you know where these things come from?  From having identified with all kinds of labels”

happiness is

Maybe Scott Peck was wrong after all in “The Road Less Travelled”, maybe life is not difficult.  Maybe we make it difficult for ourselves and others.  Maybe we just love our labels too much!

Be Happy!
