CROSSROADS

Back in the days of my idle youth. Considerably

long before the advent of the internet. Riches

unexpected for the indolent. I passed the time diligently. Over

and over doing the daily crossword. Stumped

by an ambiguous clue, ten down ‘sweet talking’, thirteen letters. Stuck

in a quagmire of ignorance. Released,

given wings, by a chance comment. Overjoyed

when she of my undeclared infatuation arrived. Announcing

herself, “Hows the crossword going”, catching me thoughtless. Declaring

“No cross word for you”, a Freudian moment bringing love. Suaviloquence.
